Two Couples Events This Friday
Golfing couples have two great events to choose from this Friday, July 21. Panorama West will host another Fore Fun Friday two-couple scramble, with registration at 4:30 p.m. and a shotgun start at 5 p.m. Cost is $1 per couple, with cash prizes awarded at the end of play on the clubhouse deck. For more information, contact Bill and Karen Eby at 641-755-2907.
At Lake Panorama National, the annual Sadie Hawkins couples event will shotgun start at 5:30 p.m. For this event, women must invite a man other than her husband to be on her two-person team. This is a two-person best-shot event. Sign up as a two-person team, and you may request to play with another team. Cost is $10 for an all-LPN-member team. A member can invite a non-member guest, which bumps the team cost to $35. Register by calling the LPN pro shop at 641-755-2024.
LPN Solheim Deadline This Thursday
The theme for the 18th annual LPN Solheim is "Birdies are the Cat's Meow." Captains Betty Minick and Deanie Thomas have extended the entry deadline to this Thursday. This event is open to all LPN women golf members with an established handicap, plus former Solheim captains.
There are several options for participating. A team shootout will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, September 1, with "betting" tables open at 5:30 p.m. Shootout teams of about six players will play Hole #1, then move to Hole #5. One team will be eliminated on that hole and each remaining hole until a winning team is decided. The Solheim two-person team competition will be Saturday, September 2, with the first tee time at 11 a.m. Each player will be matched with a partner, and play against another two-person team. Three different formats are played in these 18-hole matches, with three points per match up for grabs.
The entry fee for all events is $80. This includes a team shirt, Friday shootout, a meal following the shootout for the player and guest, team competition Saturday, and the awards dinner for the player and guest. Players who don't participate in the shootout can pay a Saturday-only fee of $65. A player who wants to participate only in the Friday shootout can enter for $10, with an additional $10 charge for a guest.
Captains Thomas and Minick will announce their Saturday Solheim teams and Friday shootout teams at the LPN women's league closing event on Thursday, August 31. With questions, or to get registered, contact Deanie Thomas, 641-755-5336, or email@example.com.
LPN Club Championship Next Weekend
The 46th annual LPN Club Championship will be next Saturday and Sunday, with 18 holes played both days. There will be three men's divisions — open, senior men (over 50), and super senior men (over 70). There is one division for women. Entry fee for all divisions is $30 and entry deadline is Friday. Prizes will be awarded in both gross and net, and the number of flights will be based on the number of entries. More details available here.
The LPN Junior Club Championship will be Saturday beginning at 5 p.m. The entry fee is $10. Age divisions will depend on the number of entries. This event is recommended for juniors ages 7 through 15. Parents are asked to caddy and keep score for their junior players. All age divisions will play nine holes from the red tee markers. More details here. Call the pro shop to register at 641-755-2024.
Register Now for LPN Mixed Couples
The LPN annual two-day Mixed Couples tournament is August 5-6. Mixed couples play as partners. Both partners drive from their respective tee and each plays a second shot from the other's ball location. Choose the best ball, and alternate shots until the ball is holed. There will be shotgun starts at 1 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. Sunday. Entry fees are $155 per couple for LPN members, and $235 for non-members. This event is limited to the first 36 paid couples. The fee covers two days of golf with cart, practice balls, prizes and a Saturday evening dinner. The entry form is available here. Direct any questions to the LPN pro shop at 641-755-2024.
Driving Range Closed July 25-26
The LPN driving range will be closed July 25-26 as preparation gets underway to install a net to protect the condos and motel from damage caused by flying golf balls. LPA staff will work with the net installation company to erect 17 poles every 50 feet. Once these poles are set, the net installation company will measure for the exact dimensions of the custom net. Installation of the net will take place three to six weeks after the poles are set, and will require the range to be closed another two days. Thanks for your patience as this project is completed.
Rally for the Cure July 27
The LPN women's league is sponsoring its annual Rally for a Cure fundraiser on Thursday, July 27. This event replaces regular league play that evening, and is open to all women golfers, not just league members. The cost is $20 for LPN members, with non-members paying an additional green fee to the course. Teams will be drawn at 5:15 p.m., followed by announcements, then a shotgun start at 5:30 p.m. Format for this event is best ball with pin events, games and prizes. Following golf, dinner will be available for an additional cost. There will be a silent auction of donated items, with winning bidders announced after dinner. All proceeds from the evening will be donated to Komen Greater Iowa. An entry form is available online. To make a donation or provide a silent auction item, contact Sue Greiner at 515-669-2414 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
