Kickoff July with Nine and Wine Couples Golf

There is room for two more couples in the LPN Nine and Wine social couples golf series, which will be held five Mondays—July 1, 8, 22, 29 and August 5. Couples will meet at the #1 tee box for a blind draw, to be paired with another couple for nine holes of 4-person best shot golf. Golf begins at 3:30 p.m. Weekly prizes will be awarded to the low scoring foursomes, plus there will be a Series MVP award. After the round, the Links Restaurant will feature wine specials.

This series is open to members of either LPN or Panorama West. Cost is $60 for LPN members and $180 for Panorama West members. Call the LPN pro shop at 641-755-2024 or stop in to register and pay.

Panorama West Fore Fun Friday Couples

This Friday, June 28, is the second of six Friday night couples events at Panorama West. This two-couple scramble always includes some type of just-for-fun golf game. This week’s game will be led by Trent and Cheryl Crawmer. Play begins at 5 p.m., with registration at 4:30. Arrive early to learn about the event, get hole assignments, and pay the $1 per couple entry fee, plus green fees for any non-members. Preregistration isn’t necessary, but if you need a cart, call the Panorama West pro shop at 64`-755-2250 to reserve. Entry fees are returned as prize money as players gather on the deck after the round. For more information, contact Bill and Karen Eby at 515-480-4633. Remaining dates for this year are July 12 and 26, and August 16 and 30. Come join the fun!

Fourth of July Couples at LPN

In case the first two items here don’t provide enough opportunities to bond over golf with your significant other, here’s one more! The annual LPN Fourth of July couples tournament on July 4 has a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start. This is an 18-hole, four-person couples best shot. Cost is $35 per couple for LPN golf members, and $120 per couple for non-members. Call the LPN pro shop at 641-755-2024 to sign up as a four-person, two-couple team.

The annual Fourth of July long drive contest will begin at 5:30 p.m. on the first tee. Look for more details next week.

LPN Solheim Deadline July 5

In recognition of the 20th anniversary of the LPN Solheim, team captains Kathy Moline and Kim Kent have chosen “Cheers to 20 Years!” as their theme. The 2019 LPN Solheim is open to all women golfers who are members of Lake Panorama National and have an established handicap, with exceptions made for former Solheim captains. The kickoff will be August 22, after women’s league play, with a shootout August 23, and team competition August 24.

For the Friday shootout, “betting tables” open at 5:30 p.m. with the competition at 6 p.m. Team pairings will be based on handicaps, with all teams advancing past the first hole. On Saturday, tee times will begin at 11 a.m. Team pictures will be taken on the 18th green after the competition, with dinner, awards and the announcement of the 2020 Solheim captains to follow.

Registrations are due by July 5. Entry fees are $85 for all events, which includes a shirt, Friday night shootout with dinner for two, Saturday Solheim team competition with dinner for two, and awards. For those not participating in the Friday shootout, the fee is $65.

Rally for Tori’s Angels July 18

For the second year, the LPN women’s league is sponsoring a nine-hole, four-gal best shot event to raise money for Tori’s Angels. This fun evening will be Thursday, July 18, with check-in at 5 p.m. and a 5:30 p.m. shotgun start. Golf will be followed by a pizza party, door prizes, silent auction, and a visit from some of the people directly involved in Tori’s Angels. The foundation provides financial support to Iowa children with life-threatening medical challenges.

The entry fee is $40 for LPN members, and $50 for non-members, which covers a T-shirt, golf and dinner. Those who already have a Tori’s Angels T-shirt to wear that night can mark “no shirt needed” on their form, and $15 of their entry fee will go directly to Tori’s Angels.

This event raised more than $3,300 last year, and organizers hope to match that this year. So besides recruiting participants for the event, they also are asking for donations of gift baskets or other items for the silent auction. Entry forms are available in both the Panorama West and LPN pro shops, and online. For more details, contact Becky Rolfes at 515-681-9111 or beckyrolfes@gmail.com.
