Finish Memorial Day Weekend Strong
Tee times still remain at both Lake Panorama National and Panorama West for today and tomorrow. For Lake Panorama National, call 641-755-2024 to schedule a tee time. At Panorama West, all veterans can play for half-price today and tomorrow as a "thank you" for their service, Call the Panorama West pro shop at 641-755-2250 for a tee time.
Tomorrow, Lake Panorama National golf course will host the annual Memorial Day Couples tournament, with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Cost is $35 per couple for LPN members and $120 per couple for non-members. The format is a four-person scramble, so sign-up as a two-couple team. Afterwards, there will be a potluck at Spikes so bring a dish to share, and if you like, something to throw on the grill. Call the pro shop at 641-755-2024 with questions, or to register.
Also tomorrow, The Links, which is normally closed, will be open for Memorial Day guests. Serving will be 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., so come enjoy Memorial Day with breakfast, lunch or afternoon drinks and appetizers at The Links.
Panorama West Irrigation Project Begins May 29
Thanks to James and Joyce McLuen, who gifted 20 percent of their estate to Friends of Lake Panorama for the Panorama West golf course, substantial improvements are underway there. Landscapes Unlimited will begin work Tuesday replacing the original irrigation system on the golf course tees, fairways and greens. Completion is expected by the end of July. During construction, all golfers will need to check in, or call the pro shop to learn about daily hole closures. For more information, call the pro shop at 641-755-2250.
Expanding Links Hours
With traffic picking up, the Links Restaurant has expanded hours to seven days a week. Beginning June 1, the Links will be open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday; Saturday 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sunday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Breakfast is served each Saturday and Sunday 8-11 a.m.
Water Aerobics Classes at LPN Pool
Starting June 4, water aerobics classes will be offered every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 9 a.m. at the pool at Lake Panorama National. Sandy Juhl and Jackie Van Ahn will lead these classes free of charge to LPN pool members. Membership forms can be printed and mailed, or dropped off with payment at the pool check-in window. Those who haven’t purchased an annual LPN pool membership pay a $3 daily fee. If you like, bring a couple of water bottles to use as weights, and a pool noodle or two. No signup needed, just come join the fun!
New Restaurant Manager at the Links
A 2009 Panorama graduate who worked at Lake Panorama National as a teenager has returned. Matt Mikkelsen started work in late April as the new LPN restaurant and events manager. Mikkelsen began working in the LPN cart barn at the age of 16. For the next five years, he worked part-time in various capacities, including the cart barn, pro shop and kitchen. After high school, he attended college where he majored in hospitality and event management. Mikkelsen was hired at Beer Can Alley in Des Moines, where he worked for three years before transferring to manage a second Beer Can Alley location in Okoboji. After two years there, he moved to Whiskey River in Ankeny, where he was the assistant manager and special events coordinator. Now he’s brought his experience to Lake Panorama National. Panorama West Fore Fun Friday Couples
This Friday, June 1, is the first of six Friday night couples events at Panorama West. This two-couple scramble always includes some type of just-for-fun golf game. Play begins at 5 p.m., with registration at 4:30. Couples are asked to arrive early to learn about that week’s event, get hole assignments, and pay the $1 per couple entry fee, plus green fees for any non-members. No preregistration is necessary, but if you need a cart, call the Panorama West pro shop to reserve. Entry fees are returned as prize money as players gather on the deck after the round. June Brings Junior Golf

The LPN junior league kicks off June 4 and runs each Monday through August 6, beginning at 5 p.m. There is no cost for this league; however, participants must be an LPN golf member. JUNIOR GOLF SCHOOL
The 20th annual Junior Golf School will be four Wednesdays in June, beginning June 6 and continuing through June 27. Junior School provides basic instruction from our PGA Professionals and LPN Staff. Perfect for beginning golfers of all skill levels. The school is open to juniors ages 5 to 17, and runs from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. the first three sessions. The final session June 27 will be at the Panorama West golf course and be a golf tournament and pizza party from 10 a.m. to noon. Cost for the school is $50 per student, enter by June 1.
