Panorama West Open House April 28

An open house will be held at the Panorama West golf course and clubhouse Sunday, April 28, to celebrate recent improvements on the course. Friends of Lake Panorama is sponsoring the event to formally recognize the $473,000 estate gift from James and Joyce McLuen, which made the improvements possible.

The open house will be 2-4 p.m., with a short program at 3 p.m. Some members of the McLuen family will be introduced at that time. Light refreshments will be available.

A silent auction will be held throughout the afternoon, so those interested can place bids on old tee markers, signs, trashcans, ball washers, ball washer stands and other items that were replaced as part of the golf course improvements.

T-shirts sporting the Friends of Lake Panorama logo and name will be available for purchase. Shirts are $20, with checks and cash accepted. Money raised by the silent auction and shirt sales will be used for small projects at the Panorama West clubhouse.

If weather permits, a putting contest on the practice green and a closest-to-the-pin contest on the first hole will be part of the festivities, with prizes awarded. Golf carts will be available so visitors can tour the course to see the improvements. A new irrigation system was installed, additional concrete cart paths added, and clubhouse landscaping renovated.

Remaining funds from the McLuen gift have been earmarked for sod and seed to restore turf along the new cart paths; aeration, seed and fertilizer to improve turf conditions on tee boxes and fairways; and sand trap renovations.

Friends of Lake Panorama Survey

Friends of Lake Panorama is a 501(c)3 nonprofit charity dedicated to improving recreational amenities at Lake Panorama. Major projects so far have been a playground at Sunset Beach, sports courts at Boulder Beach, and significant improvements at the Panorama West golf course made possible by a $473,000 estate gift from James and Joyce McLuen.

The Friends board is seeking input from LPA members about future projects. Responses to a six-question online survey will be used to prioritize future projects. Next steps will be recommendations to the LPA, and Friends and LPA working together to research potential projects. The online survey will be open through April 24.
