Birdhouse Boogie on Labor Day
If you call Sunday afternoon or first thing Monday morning, you may still be able to get into the 16th annual Birdhouse Boogie four-person couples best shot tournament at the LPN on Labor Day. The tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. The cost is $30 per couple for LPN golf members, and $90 per couple for nonmembers. The entry fees cover golf, dinner in the LPN banquet room following golf, and prizes. Quick, call the pro shop at 641-755-2024.
Two Links Changes This Week
The Links normally is closed on Mondays, but both the bar and dining room will be open on Labor Day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Bring your holiday guests and let someone else do the cooking.
Next Saturday, September 10, both the Links dining room and lounge will be closed all day to accommodate a large wedding in the banquet room.
Panorama West Pro Shop Hours to Shorten
A reminder tee times will be accepted on Labor Day at Panorama West, so call the pro shop at 641-755-2250. Or just show up, where play is first come, first serve. After Labor Day, the pro shop hours will be adjusted to 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. As weather conditions and daylight hours change, pro shop hours will be shortened. Play is always possible during daylight hours, and if the pro shop isn't open, those who need to pay green fees can do so at the kiosk located near the first tee.
LPN Iowa vs. Iowa State Couples is Friday
The 19th annual Iowa vs. Iowa State couples tournament will be this Friday, September 9. This is a four-person best shot, with couples choosing to play for either Iowa or ISU. Sign up as a couple to be paired with another couple, or as a four-person couples team. The entry fee is $10 per couple for LPN members, and $40 per couple for non-member guests. There will be a shotgun start at 5 p.m., so check in at Spikes in advance of that time. Call the pro shop at 641-755-2024 to register. More details, including a list of past winners, is here.
State Wife-Husband Championship Deadline is Thursday
The entry deadline is this Thursday, September 8 for the 56th annual Iowa Wife-Husband Championship at Lake Panorama National September 16-18. The LPN has signed a contract to host this tournament for at least two years. This is a 36-hole modified alternate stroke tournament. Participants must legally be husband and wife and maintain a residence in Iowa. The field is limited to the first 90 teams, who will have the option of playing Friday-Saturday, Friday-Sunday or Saturday-Sunday. There is a championship division and a super-senior division. The super-senior division is open to a team with a combined age of 130 years as of September 16, 2016. All play in this division is from the forward tees. Eagles Club Outing September 14
The 11th annual Eagles Club outing will be Wednesday, September 14 with a 12 p.m. shotgun start. Check in at Spikes beginning at 11:30 a.m. Participants must already be a member of the Eagles Club to play in this event. To be a club member, you must have made an eagle (gross or net) in an LPN sanctioned event, or in the presence of another Eagle Club member, and have paid the one-time dues of $20. New club members receive a cap with the LPN Eagle Club logo, plus automatic entry into the Eagles Club outing the first year. After that, a $5 entry fee is required. The format for the outing is Modified Stableford. Players can choose the white or red tee boxes and handicaps will be based on which tee each player chooses. Talk Like a Pirate Open September 25
The 11th annual Pirate Open will be Sunday, September 25, with an 11 a.m. cannon ball start. This four-person best-shot tournament will feature cups on the greens of two, four and eight inches. Entry fees are $120 per team for LPN members, and $240 per team for non-LPN members. If your team has a mix of members and non-members, check with the pro shop for pricing. The entry fees cover golf, cart, flag events, contests, prizes and much more. If you're new to this tournament, you should know many participants take the "pirate" theme seriously, decorating their carts and dressing in some form of pirate garb. This part of the tournament is not required, but adds to the fun, so feel free to join in! Entry form and a list of past winners available here.
