17th Annual LPN Solheim Results
The 17th annual LPN Solheim was held Friday and Saturday with 46 competitors, led by team captains Diane Duzenbury and Karen Hanson. Their theme was "It's How We Roll!". Seven teams competed in a shootout Friday evening. On Saturday, the golfers played 18 holes using three formats - match play, alternate shot and best ball. Team Hanson won first place, with Team Duzenbury taking second. At an awards dinner following the event, the 2017 captains were announced — Betty Minick and Deanie Thomas.
Make LPN Plans for Labor Day Weekend
The 16th annual Birdhouse Boogie four-person couples best shot tournament at the LPN will be on Labor Day, Monday, September 5. The tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m., and the field is limited to PAID entries. The cost is $30 per couple for LPN golf members, and $90 per couple for nonmembers. The Links dining room will be closed Friday evening for a special event. But the bar will remain open, and reservations accepted. Hours of operation on Saturday will be 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Links normally is closed on Mondays, but will be open on Labor Day. Serving will be 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., so come enjoy Labor Day with lunch or afternoon drinks and appetizers at The Links.
Make Labor Day Plans at Panorama West
Since rain August 19 put a damper on what was to be the final Fore Fun Friday Couples at Panorama West, a make-up event is planned for this Friday. In recognition of football season, participants are encouraged to wear their favorite team apparel, and a prize will be awarded to the couple displaying the most team spirit. No advance registration is needed for this two-couple scramble. Check-in at 4:30 p.m. and get game instructions. Pairings and hole assignments are announced at 4:55 p.m. with a shotgun start at 5 p.m. The cost is $1 per couple, with the entry fees returned as prize money when players gather on the clubhouse deck after golf. Bring your favorite beverage, and if you'd like, a snack to share. Game hosts are Bill and Karen Eby.
A reminder tee times are accepted at Panorama West on weekends and holidays, so contact the pro shop at 641-755-2250 for a tee time for the three-day Labor Day weekend. Or just show up, where play is first come, first serve.
Golf Leagues at Both Courses Winding Down
The three LPN men's leagues will wrap up the season Wednesday with a shootout and awards. The LPN women's league also wraps up this Thursday with a shootout, followed by awards, food and drinks around the pool. League members who aren't participating in the shootout are encouraged to come watch the fun, and enjoy the time around the pool afterwards.
At Panorama West, the women's league has a final day of competition this Tuesday, then finishes the season with a four-person best-shot tournament and awards luncheon September 6. A sign-up sheet will be on the league checkin table this Tuesday for those who plan to participate in the final golf event, luncheon, or both. Those playing golf on the 6th should checkin around 9 a.m. to enjoy rolls and coffee in advance of the 9:30 a.m. shotgun. The Panorama West Tuesday night men's league had their last night of play and awards last week. The Thursday morning men's league will wrap up their season September 8.
LPN Iowa vs. Iowa State Couples September 9
The 19th annual Iowa vs. Iowa State couples tournament will be Friday, September 9. This is a four-person best shot, with couples choosing to play for either Iowa or ISU. Sign up as a couple to be paired with another couple, or as a four-person couples team. The entry fee is $10 per couple for LPN members, and $40 per couple for non-member guests. LPN Hosts State Wife-Husband Championship
The entry deadline is September 8 for the 56th annual Iowa Wife-Husband Championship at Lake Panorama National September 16-18. The LPN has signed a contract to host this tournament for at least two years. This is a 36-hole modified alternate stroke tournament. Participants must legally be husband and wife and maintain a residence in Iowa. The field is limited to the first 90 teams, who will have the option of playing Friday-Saturday, Friday-Sunday or Saturday-Sunday. There is a championship division and a super-senior division. The super-senior division is open to a team with a combined age of 130 years as of September 16, 2016. All play in this division is from the forward tees.
