If you haven't yet tried the July recurring midweek specials, this is your last chance. Taco Tuesday offers two hard or soft shell beef tacos topped with cheese and pico de gallo, served with rice, refried beans and queso blanco for $7.95. Wednesday is Rib Night for $15.95, and includes slow roasted pork ribs with a smoky barbeque sauce, served with bacon coleslaw and baked beans. Home-cooked comfort food, with a main dish and sides, will be offered Thursday for $10.95. Watch for Chef Drew's August midweek specials, which will be announced in the July 31 LPN Weekly.

The LPN is hiring to replace summer staff returning to school in the fall. We are looking for part-time help at Spikes and in The Links kitchen, plus servers in The Links restaurant. We offer competitive wages and flexible schedules. Stop by the LPN front desk daily between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to get an application.

LPN Women Rally for a Cure

The annual LPN Rally for a Cure to raise money for breast cancer awareness was last Thursday. This is the 21st year for Rally events, organized by the Susan G. Komen Foundation, which educates women about early detection of breast cancer. This local event was sponsored by the LPN women's league, but open to all women golfers. Forty-nine gals paid a $20 registration fee, for a total of $980. Special activities were featured on each of the nine holes played in a best-ball event, with three of those events raising $102 in cash donations. Following golf, 34 donated items were sold through a silent auction that raised $1,166. A “Stuff the Bra Bear” raised $190, for a grand total of $2,438 raised.

Pairings and hole assignments are announced at 4:55 p.m. with a shotgun start at 5 p.m. The cost is $1 per couple, with the entry fees returned as prize money when players gather on the clubhouse deck after golf. LPN Employee Party August 1

All summer, Lake Panorama National and Panorama West staff members make it possible for the rest of us to enjoy ourselves at these two great facilities. On August 1, the tables will turn just a tiny bit for the LPN employee party beginning at 3 p.m. To make sure employees of all departments can participate in this combo golf and pool party, there will be some early closings. The Panorama West clubhouse will close at 2:30 p.m. All departments at Lake Panorama National will close at 3 p.m. This includes the pool, Spikes, the lodging desk and the pro shop. The last tee time available through the pro shop will be 2 p.m. Please respect these planned closing times so all staff can participate in the employee party. When you get a chance, say "thanks" to these employees for helping the rest of us enjoy our summer!

LPN Couples Tournament August 6-7

The annual LPN Mixed Couples tournament is August 6-7, and features a Chapman Scotch twosome format. Mixed couples play as partners. Both partners drive from their respective tees and then each plays a second shot with the other's ball. After the second shots, choose the ball with which the hole will be completed, then alternate shots until the ball is holed. The entry fee is $155 per couple for LPN members and $235 per couple for non-members, and covers two days of golf with cart, practice balls, Saturday evening dinner and prizes. This event is limited to the first 72 paid couples. The tournament begins August 6 with 12 p.m. registration, a 1 p.m. shotgun start, and dinner at 6:30 p.m. There is a continental breakfast Sunday at 8 a.m., a 9 a.m. shotgun start, and 2 p.m. cocktails and awards. Entry form here.

LPN to Host Iowa Wife-Husband Championship

After tuning up at the LPN couples tournament, make plans to take on the 56th annual Iowa Wife-Husband Championship. For the first time ever, this tournament will be played at Lake Panorama National September 16-18. The event began in Okoboji, and was played there for many years until 2003, when it moved to Burlington. The LPN has signed a contract to host this tournament for at least two years. This is a 36-hole modified alternate stroke tournament. Participants must legally be husband and wife and maintain a residence in Iowa. The field is limited to the first 90 teams, who will have the option of playing Friday-Saturday, Friday-Sunday or Saturday-Sunday. There is a championship division and a super-senior division. The super-senior division is open to a team with a combined age of 130 years as of September 16, 2016. All play in this division is from the forward tees. The entry fee for either division is $175 per team. More details and entry form online here.

Volunteers Needed for Iowa Open
