Second Seating for Valentine's Celebration Filling Up

If you're planning to take your sweetie to the LPN's Valentine dinner on Saturday, February 13, you need to get your reservations made soon. There will be two seatings at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and the second seating is nearly full. Each seating is limited to 40 patrons. RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED, no walk-ins can be accommodated. The price is $75 per person. Call 641-755-2080 or 800-879-1917 to reserve your spot.

Chef Peter Makens will be serving a five-course Valentine's dinner, with each course paired with a different wine. Makens will be personally presenting each course, describing the food and the wine pairing. The first course is Seared Scallop, which will include red wine braised pork belly, seared scallop, butternut squash puree, pickled red onion and red wine gastrique. The second course is Roasted Mushroom Salad, featuring arugula, oyster and Shitaki mushrooms, bacon, goat cheese, toasted pecan, and warm bacon dressing.

The third course is Lobster Risotto, featuring butter poached lobster, garlic, shallots, and Pecorino Romano cheese. The fourth course offers a choice of Balsamic Braised Short Ribs or Pan Roasted Halibut, each with smoked Gouda polenta, cipollini onions, and fried shallot. The final course will be a delicious dessert. The regular Links menu will be available in other parts of the restaurant.

LPN Kitchen Remodel Planned for Mid-February

A much-needed remodel of the LPN kitchen will get underway in mid-February. Although final details still are in the works, the plan is to close the kitchen beginning Sunday, February 21, and reopen on Tuesday, March 8. The work will include replacing the ceiling damaged by a roof leak that has been fixed; replacing an aging walk-in cooler with a new, larger refrigerator; and improving the food prep line. At its November meeting, the LPA Board of Directors voted to include the kitchen remodel in its 2016 capital budget.

Preliminary plans are to have The Links bar area open Wednesday through Saturday 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. during the remodel. Drink specials and some limited finger foods will be offered. Watch for more details in the next couple of weeks. During the kitchen closure, Chef Peter Makens will be putting the final touches on new menus, which will be available when The Links reopens March 8.
