Celebrate Valentine's Day at The Links

Chef Peter Makens is planning a fantastic event for your Valentine’s celebration. On Saturday, February 13, he’s offering a five-course dinner, and each course will be paired with a different higher-end wine. Chef Makens will be personally presenting each course, describing the food and the wine pairing.

Here is a rundown of the five courses. The first course is Seared Scallop, which will include red wine braised pork belly, seared scallop, butternut squash puree, pickled red onion and red wine gastrique. The second course is Roasted Mushroom Salad, featuring arugula, oyster and Shitaki mushrooms, bacon, goat cheese, toasted pecan, and warm bacon dressing.

The third course is Lobster Risotto, featuring butter poached lobster, garlic, shallots, and Pecorino Romano cheese. The fourth course offers a choice of Balsamic Braised Short Ribs or Pan Roasted Halibut, each with smoked Gouda polenta, cipollini onions, and fried shallot. The final course will be a delicious, decadent dessert guaranteed to be the perfect ending to your evening.

There will be two seatings at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Each seating is limited to 40 patrons, and it’s expected this event will fill up fast. RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED, no walk-ins can be accommodated. The price is $75 per person. Call 641-755-2080 or 800-879-1917 to reserve your spot. If you call too late to get into this special event, don’t despair. The regular Links menu will be available that evening in other parts of the restaurant.

Free Comedy Brought Laughs to LPN

Despite the frigid temperatures, about 90 people came out for the free performance Saturday night by Chicago comedian Jay Harris. Patrons enjoyed food and drink specials in advance of the 8 p.m. event. There were plenty of laughs throughout the evening as Harris shared his unique perspectives on everyday life. Thanks to everyone who helped make this event a success!
