Half-Price 2015 LPN Golf Memberships Now Available

It's the middle of July, which means the 2015 golfing season is half over....sad, but true. There is some good news, though, for those who haven't purchased a 2015 LPN golf membership — buy an annual golf membership now and pay just half price. This deal is available for all membership categories — regular for both LPA and non-LPA members; distance for those who live more than 18 miles from the course; and special for those who were not LPN members in 2014. The 2015 membership application forms show the full rates, which would be cut in half for this half-season special. Call the LPN pro shop at 641-755-2024 for more details.

Housing for Iowa Open Golfers Needed

The 2015 Brokers International Iowa Open is August 14-16. One of the many things that makes this tournament special for golfers who travel to Lake Panorama is free housing offered in host homes. Again this year, Kent and Shirley Stephenson are coordinating housing requests from players. While many players already have been placed, requests continue to come in. If you have space available, and would consider hosting one or more players, please contact the Stephensons at 641-755-3787.

Dinnebier Inducted into Waterloo Golf Hall of Fame

John Dinnebier, Lake Panorama National general manager and director of golf, has been inducted into the Waterloo Golf Hall of Fame. He will be honored Saturday in conjunction with the 82nd annual Waterloo Open. Dinnebier was born in 1967 in Waterloo, and began his golf career at the age of 3 playing golf with his father and two brothers. His parents, Paul and Zelda, continue to live in Waterloo. Dinnebier attended Waterloo East, with his biggest highlight there representing the school twice at the 4A state golf championships.

Dinnebier was recruited to play golf at the University of Nebraska, and was the Number One player for the Huskers from 1985 to 1989. He won the Waterloo Open in 1988 and 1989. He graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1990 with a business degree, and began his professional golf career as an assistant pro at Red Carpet Golf in Waterloo. After a stint at Des Moines Golf, Dinnebier became the LPN head pro in 1999, and has been the LPN general manager since 2002. Congratulations, John!

The Links Dinner Specials Thursday-Saturday

Peter Makens, the new executive chef in The Links kitchen, is offering dinner specials each Thursday, Friday and Saturday, beginning at 5 p.m.. This is an opportunity for diners to try some new dishes, and for Makens to gain feedback on what might work well on the new menu he's planning. This week's appetizer is bacon-wrapped shrimp with a sweet and sour barbecue sauce. The Cobb salad returns for a second week, and offers a seasoned chicken breast on mixed greens, housemade ranch dressing, blue cheese, bacon, tomato and avocado. The sandwich special is a marinated chicken breast with chipotle mayo, pepper jack cheese and avocado. This week's entree is Steak de Burgo medallions — herb-encrusted beef tenderloin served with potato gratin and garlic butter sauce. To finish things off, try the rustic apple tart with vanilla bean gelato and homemade caramel. Plan now for dinner at The Links, and let Chef Makens know what you think about these special offerings.
