New Chef in the Kitchen

Beginning this week, there is a new head chef in the LPN kitchen. Peter Makens comes to us after five years as sous chef at Centro in Des Moines. He is a native of Minnesota, where he owned Ziggy's Cafe. Makens has extensive experience cooking 100 percent from scratch, which he plans to bring to The Links Restaurant and Lounge. More details in the coming weeks, as he settles into his new position.

Just 10 Slots Remain for LPN Two-Gal June 25

Women golfers are invited to get their "Game On" at the LPN two-gal, 18-hole, best-shot tournament Thursday, June 25. Just 10 slots remain for this event, so get registered this week. The deadline for paid registrations is next Monday, June 15. This tournament is sponsored by the LPN women's league and replaces regular play that day. LPN members are encouraged to invite a non-member to come experience what our club has to offer, although teams of LPN members also are welcome. Check-in is at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Entry fees cover refreshments, golf with cart, lunch, door prizes and golf prizes. CAbi Open House/Sales Event Thursday

An open house and sales event for the CAbi line of women's clothing and accessories will be this Thursday, June 11, 3 pm. to 9 p.m. in the LPN Cypress Point room. Mary Jo Smith is originally from the Panora area, and has friends, relatives and CAbi customers throughout Guthrie County. She and her apprentice, Lindsay Manring, will have clothing and accessories from the CAbi spring and summer line available for purchase, but also can take orders. '70s Style Couples Golf this Friday

The June 12 Friday Couples at Lake Panorama National will have a 1970s theme. Players are encouraged to dress in their best 1970s attire for this four-person best shot played '70s style. Get signed up in the pro shop to play with another couple, or to be matched another couple. Check in at Spikes in advance of the 5:30 p.m. start. Cost is $10 per couple.

Father's Day Tournament Not Limited to Fathers

The 11th annual LPN Father’s Day tournament on Sunday, June 21, isn’t just for fathers. Any combination of a parent or grandparent with a son or daughter or grandson or granddaughter is welcome. The format is two-person alternate shot. There are two divisions. The adult division competitors will play 18 holes. The cost is $25 per team for LPN golf club members and $100 per team for non-members. The junior division, for teams that include one member age 12 and under, plays nine holes. The cost is $10 per team for LPN members and $50 for non-members. Call the pro shop at 641-755-2024 to get registered. Tee times between 9:45 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. will be announced June 20. Irv Gerlich Memorial Ryder Cup Deadline June 17

A reminder June 17 is the registration deadline for the 2015 Irv Gerlich Memorial Ryder Cup. This year’s captains are Bruce Ahrendsen and Rod Knudsen. The event will be August 6-9, and the cost is $175. Only paid registrations will be accepted. Entry forms are available in the pro shop or online.

Pool Membership Details

The swimming pool and spa at the LPN conference center, open since Memorial Day weekend, is a busy place. A reminder the pool is free to Clover Ridge Interval Owners and guests of the Lake Panorama National Inn and Suites. Everyone else must pay a $3 daily fee, or purchase an annual membership. LPA members can purchase a 2015 single membership for $75 and a family membership for $130. For those who are not LPA property owners, a single membership is $85 and a family membership is $145. Memberships can be purchased online, or in person. Annual members receive silicon wristbands to wear when using the pool. There is a check-in window near the pool for paying the daily fee, or for annual membership details. Snacks and beverages also can be purchased there. Pool hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
