Get Registered for First 2015 Tournament
The first organized golf tournament of the LPN season is always the Bud Light 8" Cup. This year's event will be Sunday, April 26. As the name implies, the cups on the greens will be 8 inches to help players who lost their putting stroke over the winter. Entry fees are $120 per team if all members are LPN golf members, and $240 per team if all members are not LPN golf members. If your team has a mixture of LPN members and non-members, see the entry form or call the pro shop for a fee breakdown. Registration begins at 10 a.m., with a shotgun start at 11 a.m. and awards at 4 p.m. Entry fees cover golf with cart, range balls, hors d'oeuvres, and prizes. Download the entry form here.
Mother's Day Brunch is May 10
Make plans now to get Mom out of the kitchen and into The Links on May 10 for the annual LPN Mother's Day brunch. The brunch will be served 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., with seatings scheduled every half hour. The cost is $15.95 for adults, $8.95 for children 5-12 and free for children 4 and under. Since the kitchen staff will be busy preparing for the brunch, the regular breakfast menu won't be available that morning. This is a popular event, so get your reservations made soon by calling 641-755-2080.
Enjoy a Frosty Glass at The Links
A new addition at The Links is a cooler for beer glasses, and patrons are enjoying the cold beer served in these frosty glasses. Funds for the new cooler came from donations made to the Granite Club. The Granite Club began in 2008 as a way to support the construction of Spikes, even though donations were not tax deductible. Now management of the program has shifted to Friends of Lake Panorama. This nonprofit 501(c)3 charity, formed in 2014, is focused on improving recreational amenities at Lake Panorama, including Lake Panorama National. All contributions are tax deductible.
Seeking New Granite Club Members
Currently, 10 holes on the LPN golf course have a sponsorship sign. Donor signs are made of granite, thus, the Granite Club name. Entry into the Granite Club follows the 2008 rules. Donors of $10,000 receive a sign on one of the 18 LPN golf holes for a five-year period. Donors of $5,000 receive a sign for two years. As initial contracts expire, club members can choose to make another large donation, switch to an annual $500 donation, or have the sign removed. All money raised is used for improvements at Lake Panorama National.
Besides the teebox signs, Granite Club members are recognized on a display inside Spikes, in publicity about improvements financed by the Granite Club, on a sign adjacent to significant projects, and a special page on both the LPN and the Friends websites.
Current Granite Club members are Brokers International; Panora Telco; Guthrie County State Bank/Lake Panorama Realty/GSCB Investment Center; American Equity; Exterior Sheet Metal; Bryton Insurance; Total Financial Solutions; Stanley Engineering; Brokers International Financial Services; and Clover Ridge Interval Owners. The eight holes open for sponsorship are 2, 4, 6, 12, 13, 14, 15, and 17. To discuss Granite Club membership, contact John Dinnebier, email@example.com, or Susan Thompson, firstname.lastname@example.org.
Flowerbed Volunteers Needed
Volunteers are being sought to help plant and maintain flowerbeds on the Lake Panorama National golf course, as well as some common areas. Most beds on the course have been adopted, but volunteers still are needed for the #12 tee boxes and the restroom near the #12 green. Common areas available for adoption are near the pro shop, the east side of the conference center, the Irv Gerlich Memorial north of the conference center, and Spikes. A workday is planned for next Sunday, April 19. Volunteers are asked to gather at 4 p.m., and bring tools, gloves and buckets. Work will take place on adopted flowerbeds and common areas. Carts will be available to haul debris away and fresh mulch in. Kathy Moline and Shanell Wagler are coordinating this volunteer effort. For more information, call Wagler at 515-371-0505 or Moline at 515-360-3488.
LPN Personnel Change
After 17 years as a chef at the LPN, Mike Harris has accepted a new position at the St. Gregory Retreat Center in Adair. John Dinnebier, LPN general manager, said Mike’s hard work and dedication have contributed to LPN’s success. “Mike will be missed. We are sad to see him leave, but wish him the best in this new career opportunity,” he said. Mike has offered to help with large events until a new chef is hired, and Gina Harris will continue to manage The Links. Dinnebier has begun the search for Mike’s replacement as the LPN Executive Chef and welcomes any leads or suggestions. Contact him at the LPN at 641-755-2080; on his cell at 515-490-3498; or at email@example.com.
