LPN Weekly - 3/15/15

Appointments Remain for Tuesday's Blood Drive

About 20 openings remain for the Panora Community blood drive this Tuesday, which is being sponsored by Lake Panorama National. The LifeServe Blood Center will be managing donations that day in its Bloodmobile parked at the LPN golf maintenance facility, just north of the LPA office. To donate, you must weigh at least 120 pounds, be in generally good health, and at least 16 years of age. Donors are encouraged to eat a good meal before donating, and drink plenty of fluids both before and after. Donation hours are 11:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. Call Sandy Lowe at 641-757-0451 to schedule an appointment.

Golf Courses Are Open!

Warm, dry weather conditions allowed both Lake Panorama National and Panorama West to open last week. There were some cart restrictions for a few days, but carts now are allowed on both courses. As always, please try to stay on paths or in the rough where possible, and use the 90-degree rule on fairways. LPN pro shop hours now are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, depending on weather and course traffic. For non-members, green fees for March are $38 plus tax, which includes a cart seat. The Panorama West pro shop is not yet open for the season. Non-members can pay their $16 green fees at the outdoor kiosk near the first tee.

Tie a Yellow Ribbon Around the Old Ash Tree

Those who have been on the LPN golf course will have noticed yellow ribbons wrapped around a number of trees on the first hole. Those are ash trees, which are being threatened by the emerald ash borer. There are several hundred ash trees on the LPN course. To help determine possible action, the LPN golf staff will be doing a hole-by-hole evaluation of ash trees on the course. There are insecticide treatments that may keep the borer from killing an ash tree, but these are expensive, must be done annually, and are only recommended if the borer has been discovered within 15 miles. Emerald ash borers have been found in Boone County, so possible treatment of trees at the LPN is not expected this year. This evaluation will help the LPN be prepared if the pest is discovered within 15 miles.

Easter Brunch and Egg Hunt is April 5

The third annual LPN Easter egg hunt will be Sunday, April 5, adjacent to the conference center, beginning at 10 a.m. sharp. Bring the kids and grandkids and enjoy the fun! This is open to all children, not just those attending the brunch. The annual Easter brunch will be served 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., with seatings scheduled every half hour. The cost is $15.95 for adults, $8.95 for children 5-12 and free for children 4 and under. Since the kitchen staff will be busy preparing for the brunch, the regular breakfast menu won't be available that morning. For reservations, call 641-755-2080.
