20th Annual Ryder Cup Results

The team led by Jack Beavers defeated the team led by Ed McCollom in the Irv Gerlich Memorial Ryder Cup this weekend. It was a close competition, with Beavers' team collecting 49 1/2 points to McCollom's 42 1/2 points. The 2015 Ryder Cup captains, announced at the closing dinner Sunday, will be Rod Knudsen and Bruce Ahrendsen. 

Junior Ryder Cup Tuesday

The 6th annual LPN Junior Ryder Cup will be this Tuesday, with tee times starting at 10 a.m. Spectators and parents are invited to cheer on the junior players during the matches. Entry deadline is Monday at 4 p.m. Call the pro shop at 641-755-2024 to register.

Full Field for 2014 Brokers International, Ltd. Iowa Open

The field is full for the Brokers International, Ltd. Iowa Open, which will be Friday through Sunday at the LPN. Admission to the tournament is free, and spectators are encouraged. This tournament brings Iowa’s top pros and amateurs together. At least 40 out-of-state professional golfers also will compete in the tournament.

Local golfers entered include professionals John Dinnebier, LPN general manager and director of golf; Gary Babcock, LPN head golf pro; Jaron Smool and Justin Smool, both of Bagley; and Zach Hammerberg of Adel. Hammerberg, who has been an intern in the LPN pro shop this summer, is making his professional golfing debut. Local amateurs registered are Will Babcock, Jordan Eng, Bill Douglass and Matt Mikkelson, all of Panora, and Mike Mumma, Jefferson.

The pro-am tournament Thursday has a full field of 36 teams. The main event begins Friday at 8 a.m. Everyone will play both Friday and Saturday. Sunday’s final round will be limited to the top 70 players and ties.

Iowa Open Volunteer Kickoff Tuesday

Those who have signed up to volunteer during the Broker's International, Ltd. Iowa Open are invited to a kickoff at Spikes on Tuesday. Burgers and brats will be served, and schedules, shirts, hats and visors distributed. There will not be a program, just come any time between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Kathy DeLucca and Gary Soreide are coordinating volunteers. Questions? Reminder: No Leagues This Week

A reminder that because of activities surrounding the Iowa Open this week, there won't be any men's leagues on Wednesday or women's league on Thursday. League play will resume the following week, with the men having one more week of competition and the women having two weeks left in the season. The men's leagues shootouts will be Aug. 27, with the women's league shootouts Sept. 4.

15th Solheim Cup August 24

The 15th annual Solheim Cup for LPN women will be Sunday, Aug. 24. (Note - last week's LPN Weekly had an incorrect date for this event.) Captains Carole Peterson and Jody Babcock will have 48 recruits competing in the "Battle by Boulder Beach" that day. The military theme was chosen because both Carole and her husband Keith served in the Army, while Jody worked for the Air Force and her husband Gary served in the Air Force. The tournament will begin with tee times on the 24th at 11 a.m. A kickoff with hors d'oeuvres will follow women's league play on Aug. 21.

Sadie Hawkins Couples August 22

The 9th annual Sadie Hawkins couples event will be Aug. 22, with a shotgun start at 5:30 p.m.. For this Friday night couples, women must invite a man other than her husband to be on her two-person team. This is a two-person best-shot event. Sign up as a two-person team, and you may request to play with another team. Cost is $10 per team. A member can invite a non-member guest, which bumps the team cost to $35. Register by calling the pro shop - 755-2024.
