Dinnebier Thanks LPN Members for Support

John Dinnebier, LPN general manager and director of golf, was one of 312 golf pros who competed in the 47th PGA Professional National Championship last week at Myrtle Beach, S.C. He didn't make the cut after the first two days of play, but Dinnebier says it was a great experience. "Although I didn't play as well as I wanted, representing the LPN at the national level was exciting. I want to thank everyone for their support and words of encouragement. It meant a lot knowing LPN members were rooting for me," he said. Dinnebier also played in the 2011 tournament in Hershey, Penn.

Pool Construction Delayed until September

The construction of a new swimming pool at the LPN conference center has been halted, and is scheduled to resume in September. A number of things contributed to the decision. The harsh winter postponed the start of construction by at least a month. Ongoing rain and cold temperatures, plus damage from the May 11 tornado, caused further delays.

There also was a desire to adjust the design. The original plan was for a zero entry. But once the slope of the pool was clear, planners realized the swimmable portion would be small. The new design includes three steps into an area 33 inches deep and 15 feet long. Next will be 27 feet where the water gradually deepens. The last 17 feet of the pool will be 5 feet deep.

The contractor will return in September to complete the project. If all goes as planned, the new pool and hot tub will be ready to open as soon as the 2015 weather permits.

Reduced Pro-Am Team Price Ends Tomorrow

A few spots remain for teams in the Iowa Open pro-am tournament Aug. 14. If paid by Monday, the entry fee for a four-person team is $800. On July 1, the price increases to $1,000. Each team gets four gift packs, an Iowa pro on the team, and eight tickets to an Aug. 13 draw party. Contact Larry and Mary Hills, 641-755-4016, larmar@netins.net.

Dan Lehman Memorial Tournament July 12

The annual Dan Lehman Memorial golf tournament will be Saturday, July 12, with an entry deadline of Saturday, July 5. This is a four-person, best shot event. Entry fees are $25 for LPN members and $55 for non-members, and cover green fees with cart, range balls and lots of prizes. Registration is 11 a.m. with a shotgun start at 12 p.m. Lehman died in March 2008 of a heart attack while skiing in Colorado. His family hosts this memorial tournament, with money raised supporting LPN junior golf programs. Entry form here.

John Staebell Memorial Tournament July 13

The John Staebell Memorial Golf Tournament will be Sunday, July 13. Entry fees for this four-person, best shot event are $30 for LPN members and $60 for non-members. That covers green fees with cart, range balls, hole-in-one contests, dinner and prizes. Registration is at noon with a 1 p.m. shotgun start. Staebell died at his Lake Panorama home in March 2011, after a three-year battle with cancer. He was a 43-year member of the Knights of Columbus, so the group’s annual golf tournament was named in his honor. Funds raised go to Timber Creek Charities, the Panora Fire Department and Knights of Columbus charities. Entry form here.
