Pickleball Court Now Marked at LPN Tennis Courts
A local group interested in pickleball has taped off one court on the current LPN tennis courts. Pickleball is played on a surface one-third the size of a tennis court, and uses many of the same rules. Dinnebier at National PGA Event
John Dinnebier, LPN general manager and director of golf, is one of 312 golf pros to qualify for the 47th PGA Professional National Championship June 22-25 at The Dunes Golf & Beach Club and Grande Dunes, Myrtle Beach, S.C. Dinnebier also played in the 2011 tournament in Hershey, Pa. Live scoring will be available at www.pgalinks.com/scoring. Results will be online at www.pgatournaments.com each day after play is completed. The Golf Channel will provide live coverage (Iowa time) June 22, 4-6 p.m.; June 23, 2:30-5 p.m.; June 24, 2:30-5:30 p.m, and June 25, 1-4 p.m.
Irv Gerlich Memorial Ryder Cup Deadline Wednesday
A reminder the registration deadline is this Wednesday for the LPN's 20th annual Irv Gerlich Memorial Ryder Cup Aug. 7-10. The cost is $175, which covers a team shirt, hat and tournament gift, meals, and three rounds of competitive golf. Registration forms and full payment must be submitted to the pro shop by Wednesday. 17th Annual LPN 2-Gal Tournament this Thursday
Some openings remain for the LPN's 17th annual 2-Gal Invitational on Thursday. The 18-hole 2-gal best-shot includes registration at 8 a.m. and a shotgun start at 9 a.m., followed by lunch and awards. Cost is $35 for LPN members and $55 for non-members. Registration here.
Chapman Scotch Foursome Featured at Friday Couples
The format for the couples event Friday will be a Chapman Scotch Foursome. Men drive from the white tees and women drive from the reds. Men hit from the best drive of the women, and women hit from the best drive of the men. The best shot of the four is chosen, and everyone plays from there. Registration at Spikes at 5 p.m. with shotgun start at 5:30 p.m. Sign up in the pro shop as a four-person team, or to be paired with another couple. More details here.
June 26 Deadline for 15th Annual LPN Solheim
The 15th annual Solheim for women who are members of Lake Panorama National will be Sunday, Aug. 24. Captains Carole Peterson and Jody Babcock have chosen “Battle By Boulder Beach” for their theme. The entry fee of $65 includes a team shirt, great prizes, a Thursday night kick-off event, 18 holes of golf and awards dinner for players and their spouse/significant other. Registration deadline is June 26, and forms are available online.
Glow Ball Tournament June 27
The 2nd annual LPN Glow Ball Tournament will be Friday, June 27. Registration begins at 8:30 p.m., with a shotgun start at 9:30 p.m. This 9-hole tournament is limited to the first 18 paid teams. The four-person, best-shot event is for LPN golf members only at a cost of $120 per team. The fee includes golf with cart, glow balls and prizes. Entry form online here.
Volunteers Needed for Brokers International, Ltd. Iowa Open
The Brokers International, Ltd. Iowa Open will be Aug. 15-17. More than 175 volunteers are needed. All volunteers will receive a new shirt and hat or visor, and a noon meal at Spikes. Another way to help is to volunteer to host a golfer during the tournament. Free housing for professional players and their families is offered on a first-come, first-serve basis. Kent and Shirley Stephenson are coordinating placing golfers in homes. Contact them at 641-755-3787.
Reduced Pro-Am Team Price Ends June 30
There are slots for 34 teams in the Iowa Open pro-am tournament Aug. 14. If paid by June 30, the entry fee for a four-person team is $800. After that, the price increases to $1,000. Panorama West 2-Gal Tournament Welcomed 72 Players
The Panorama West women’s golf league hosted a 2-gal best-shot tournament Tuesday with a full field of 36 teams. Cash prizes were awarded to the top three teams in six flights. Winners of the championship flight were Susan Greiner and Denise Norwood with a one-under-par 26. Second place went to Carla Fitzgerald and Susan Thompson with a 28. Jerilynn Klaver and Peggy Purvis of Ames placed third with a 30. Flag event winners were Mary Hills with longest putt, and Denise Norwood with closest to the pin in two shots.
