LPN Women Take 2nd Place Net in State Tournament

The four-person team of Deb Douglass, Susan Greiner, Denise Norwood and Linda Reis took second place in the net division at the 52nd Iowa Women State Team Championship Aug. 12 at Briarwood Club in Ankeny.

They finished just a stroke behind the first place team from Sunnyside Country Club of Waterloo. Both Douglass and Greiner shot net scores of 71, with Norwood’s 72 making up the LPN total. Reis also played well, posting a net 75.

A team from Hunters Ridge Golf Course in Marion won their second straight title in the gross competition, with a team from Ames Golf and Country Club taking second. There were 23 teams from clubs across Iowa competing in both gross and net divisions.

2013 LPN Solheim Cup in the Books

A total of 48 women competed on two teams Sunday in the 2013 LPN Solheim Cup. Captains Danna Krambeer and Susan Thompson chose the theme of "Eat, Sleep, Golf" for this 14th annual event. Three different formats were played over 18 holes, with many tight matches. In the end, Team Thompson won 20 1/2 points compared to Team Krambeer's 15 1/2 points.

Following an awards dinner, the captains for the 2014 LPN Solheim Cup were announced. They are Jody Babcock and Carole Peterson.

Men's League Shootout August 28

The final event for the LPN 2013 men's league will be a shootout this Wednesday, Aug. 28. The shootout begins at 3 p.m. and advance registration is required. The shootout is open to participants of all three leagues - noon, 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. There is no entry fee. The men's league final dinner will be held following the shootout. Call the pro shop at 755-2024 to register.

Couples Birdhouse Boogie on Labor Day

The 13th annual Birdhouse Boogie couples tournament will be Monday, Sept. 2. This tournament is held each Labor Day and was started by Dick and Diane Zapf. Dick’s handmade birdhouses are awarded for special flag events.

The four-person couples best-shot tournament has a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start. Entry fees are $30 per couple for LPN members and $90 per couple for non-LPN members. Entry fees cover golf, dinner and prizes.

The field is limited to entries PAID in advance, with signup in the pro shop. More details and a list of recent champions available here.

32 Couples Played in Sadie Hawkins Event

There was a great turnout of 32 couples for last Friday’s Sadie Hawkins golf event. Find full results here. The next Friday night couples will be the annual Iowa vs. Iowa State grudge match on Sept. 15, with a 5 p.m. shotgun. Mark your calendar and watch for more details.

Make Tee Times for Labor Day Weekend

Are you looking for an activity to entertain guests this Labor Day weekend? A round of golf at Panorama West is always popular. Parents and grandparents can play nine holes of golf with related youth under 16 for $26.75. This special rate is limited to four players. Rental golf carts and clubs are available for an additional fee.

Tee times are recommended at Panorama West for weekends and holidays. Walk-ins will be accommodated if there are openings.

The Panorama West pro shop is open daily 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. A large selection of food and beverage items is available, including microwave popcorn, hot and cold sandwiches, chips and ice cream treats. Panorama West Leagues Winding Down

Final events are being planned for the three golf leagues that play weekly at Panorama West. The Tuesday night men’s league will hold its final tournament and meal Sept. 3. The Thursday morning men’s league will have its tournament and lunch Sept. 5, plus a shootout, scramble and lunch on Sept. 12.

The Tuesday morning women’s league will wrap up the season Sept. 10 with a two-person best ball tournament and awards luncheon. Rolls and coffee will be provided for the 9 a.m. registration, with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m.
