One of the sections on the recent LPN survey dealt with upgrades to the LPN conference center. Several possible upgrades were listed, and renovations to the main floor bathrooms topped the list of items members would most like to see. The need to upgrade these bathrooms has been clear for many years, but a cost effective plan to do so was elusive. This spring, Kane Powell came up with the idea of expanding the women’s bathroom by removing the north wall and utilizing about five feet of the adjoining storage closet. This plan will make it possible to increase the number of stalls to four, plus add a longer counter with three sinks.

Powell volunteered to coordinate the project and provide his personal labor for electrical and tile work at no cost. The LPA will pay for all material and some labor, plus LPA staff will provide some labor. Construction will be done as quickly as possible to minimize the disruption. First up is the women’s bathroom, with demolition beginning this week. Renovation of the men’s room is next on the list of improvements, with budget and schedules dictating the timing. In both, the work will include replacement of all fixtures, stalls, counters, tile, light fixtures and doors.

We apologize for the inconvenience, but look forward to having improved restroom facilities on the main floor of the conference center soon!

ST. PATRICK’S DAY MEANS CORNED BEEF & CABBAGE
In recognition of St. Patrick’s Day, a special meal of corned beef and cabbage will be available at the Links all day Saturday and Sunday, March 16-17. Come out and enjoy!

Why corned beef and cabbage, you ask? St. Patrick’s Day is the anniversary of the saint’s death in the 5th Century. The Irish have observed March 17 as a religious holiday for more than 1,000 years with a traditional meal of Irish bacon and cabbage. Though cabbage has long been an Irish food, corned beef only began to be associated with St. Patrick’s Day at the turn of the century when Irish immigrants in New York City substituted corned beef for bacon, to save money.

EASTER BRUNCH
Get your reservations in early for our annual Easter brunch on March 31. Chef Mike Harris will prepare breakfast, lunch and dinner entrees, along with sweet desserts. Brunch will be served from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Make your reservations today by calling 641-755-2080.

An Easter egg hunt will be held for children at 10 a.m.
