12th Annual Iditarod November 10

Iditarod XII will be Sunday, Nov. 10, with tee off at 11 a.m. This is a four-person, best-shot tournament that involves playing 12 holes on a redesigned LPN course. For instance, the fourth hole will be a 449-yard par 5. Players will tee off from left of the #5 green and play to the #4 green, checking for traffic on the road before hitting to the green.

The fifth hole is a 631-yard par 6, making it the #1 handicap hole on the Iditarod course. Players begin at the #10 white tees and play to the #17 green. The cost for LPN members is $10 per person, with non-members playing as guests of a member at $25 per person. Call the pro shop at 755-2024 to register.

Golf Season Winds Down

Despite a wet spring and a hot, dry summer, golfers continued to flock to the LPN golf course, with 28,000 rounds played. John Dinnebier, LPN general manager and director of golf, called 2013 an “average year. Weather has not been our friend, but business has been good despite the struggling golf industry.” Dinnebier thanked LPN members on behalf of his entire staff for another great season of golf.

The LPN golf course will remain open as long as conditions allow. Daily green fee rates are $35, plus tax, for play-all-day. Spikes now is closed for the season, but snacks and drinks are available in the pro shop and the Links. The outside entrances to the Spikes restrooms will be open when players are on the course. The two on-course bathrooms are closed for the season. Call the pro shop at 755-2024 for details.

Panorama West Golf Course

Pro Shop Closed but Golf Continues

The Panorama West pro shop is closed for the season, but green fees can be paid using forms and a drop box near the first tee. An all-day-play rate of $12 is in effect for the rest of this season.

By the middle of October, about 7,700 rounds of golf had been played at Panorama West since the pro shop opened last spring. While member rounds were down slightly, non-member rounds were up. Maureen Lubeck, who managed the pro shop this year, said the difference in member rounds probably can be attributed to weather in May and June that was not conducive to league play. Lubeck offered thanks to both members and non-members for making the 2013 season a great success.

Cards and Potlucks

Couples and individuals are invited to play cards and enjoy potlucks the second and fourth Sunday of each month at the Panorama West clubhouse. Through the golfing season, these events begin earlier and include a round of golf. During the winter months, the group gathers at 5 p.m., no reservations are needed, and everyone is welcome.
