Celebrate Your Love and Meet Chef Brent!
At The Links we are celebrating Valentine’s Day for two days — both Thursday and Friday, February 14 and 15. Beginning at 5 p.m. each day, Chef Brent and his team will offer a special menu of delectable appetizers, entrees and desserts. Links Manager Matt Mikkelsen has selected the perfect wine to complement each of the entrees, plus crafted Cupid’s Cotton Candy Cocktail to add to the celebration. Our regular menu will not be available Thursday or Friday after 5 p.m, although the children’s menu will be available both evenings. Due to exceptional response, reservations now are required for both Thursday and Friday evening. Tables still remain in the lounge and dining room at 8 p.m. both nights. Basketball Watch Party February 16
On Saturday, February 16, the Iowa and Iowa State men’s basketball teams will be playing, but not against each other. It’s one of those rare days when the schedules align for both teams to be playing: Iowa State tips off against the Kansas State Wildcats at 3 p.m., and Iowa takes on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights at 5 p.m.
At The Links, we’re celebrating the day with a State Basketball Watch Party. Starting at 2:30 p.m., join us wearing your Iowa or Iowa State apparel, and receive a complimentary sampler appetizer of Chef Brent’s homemade pretzels and beer cheese dip, or homemade salsa and chips. Chef Brent also will be featuring new appetizers offered Saturday only, as well as Iowa State and Iowa flatbread pizzas.
Links Manager Matt Mikkelsen has concocted Iowa and Iowa State shot specials to add an extra punch to your cheers. Our men’s teams have provided an exciting year of basketball, and we invite you to join the fun at the Links!
Ladies and Gentlemen, Start Your Engines!
The Daytona 500 turns 50 this year. Did you know it took three days to determine the winner of the first one in 1959 because of a really close finish? On Sunday, February 17, come watch the 50th running of the Daytona at The Links with $2 Busch Light, and $1 miscellaneous canned beer. The race starts at 1:30 p.m. The kitchen will be open until 3 p.m., and the lounge will be open through the end of the race. Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines!
LPN Executive Chef Hired
A native Iowan who has worked in kitchens in Minnesota and Arizona since the mid-1990s now is in the kitchen at Lake Panorama National Resort. Brent Gaffney, who was born in Independence, Iowa, is LPN’s new executive chef. Gaffney earned a degree in culinary arts at Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Minneapolis in 2002. Over the next 10 years, he worked as a chef at several restaurants in Minnesota. In 2013, he moved with his wife and daughter to Tucson, Arizona, when he was hired as the sous chef at Bodega Kitchen + Wine. Within two months, he was promoted to executive chef.
Gaffney resigned from Stone Canyon Golf Club in Marana, Arizona, to become LPN’s executive chef. At Stone Canyon, he managed all banquets and line operations, helped develop a new menu, and implemented a kitchen call ticket system. We are excited to welcome Brent to Lake Panorama National!
