Final Fore Fun Friday at Panorama West

Panorama West will host the final Fore Fun couples event this Friday, August 25. No advance registration is needed for this two-couple scramble. Check-in at 4:30 p.m. and get game instructions. Pairings and hole assignments are announced with a shotgun start at 5 p.m. The cost is $1 per couple, with the entry fees returned as prize money when players gather on the clubhouse deck after golf. For more information, contact Bill and Karen Eby at 641-755-2907.


Water Aerobics Hours Change

This week, the Wednesday evening water aerobics class at the LPN pool will move to 6 p.m., rather than 7 p.m. Morning classes will continue to start at 9 a.m. Jackie Van Ahn leads the Monday morning class. Sandy Juhl leads the Wednesday and Friday classes. The classes are free, but those who haven’t purchased an annual LPN pool membership pay a $3 daily fee. Classes last an hour and will continue at least through August.


Make Plans for Labor Day Weekend

Birdhouse Boogie

The 17th annual Birdhouse Boogie four-person couples best shot tournament will be on Labor Day, Monday, September 4. The tournament begins with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m., and the field is limited to PAID entries. The cost is $30 per couple for LPN golf members, and $90 per couple for nonmembers. Entry fees cover golf, dinner and prizes. Call or signup in the pro shop. Find more details, including a list of recent champions, here.

Lake Panorama National Golf Course

Reserve your tee time early at Lake Panorama National, since holiday weekends always are busy on the golf course. Plenty of tee times remain, but are expected fill up fast. Call the LPN pro shop at 641-755-2024.

Panorama West Golf Course

Tee times also are accepted at Panorama West on weekends and holidays, so contact the Panorama West pro shop at 641-755-2250 for a tee time during the Labor Day weekend. Or take a chance and just show up, where play is first come, first serve.

The Links Restaurant

The Links Restaurant will be open normal hours Friday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Links normally is closed on Mondays, but WILL BE OPEN Labor Day, with serving 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Be sure to visit the The Links during the long Labor Day weekend for some great food, drink and fun times with friends.


18th Annual LPN Solheim Labor Day Weekend

The annual LPN Solheim will be held Friday, September 1 and Saturday, September 2. The theme for this year's event is "Birdies are the Cat's Meow." Team captains are Betty Minick and Deanie Thomas. Teams for both the Saturday competition and the Friday evening shootout will be announced after women's league play on Thursday, August 31. For the Friday shootout, "betting" tables will open at 5:30 p.m., and the shootout starts at 6 p.m. Shootout teams of about six players will play Hole #1, then move to Hole #5. One team will be eliminated on that second hole and each remaining hole until a winning team is decided.

The main event is the Solheim two-person team competition on Saturday, September 2, with the first tee time at 11 a.m. Each player will be matched with a partner, and play against another two-person team. Three different formats are played within these 18-hole matches, with three points per match up for grabs. Dinner will follow, with a competitor's spouse or guest welcome. The holiday season will be here before we know it, so now is a good time to plan your company's holiday party or special times with family and friends. The LPN conference center offers a variety of room sizes and meal plans to accommodate any group. If you'll have people visiting from out-of-town, the LPN also has lodging available in either townhouses or motel rooms. Dates are filling up, so call the LPN at 641-755-2080 to discuss options for your company or family get-together, and to make lodging reservations.
